Why Your Business NEEDS SEO in 2020
This month in our 12-Month Business Growth Challenge, we’re looking at Optimising Your Online Presence as one of the foundations to your business success.
Here’s a recap of why it’s important:
Our online presence is the most easily accessible digital shop window we have – people can use our blogs or social channels to peer in our virtual shop window, get to know what we offer, our values and hopefully (if we do our jobs well) grow trust in us.
Money is simply the exchange of trust
– which is why building trust with our target customers is so important!
Because our businesses change every day, time passes fast, and we get busy, it’s easy for our online presence to grow stale quickly.
I’m sure we can all agree that a stale and stagnant shop window, is not that appealing and won’t be serving us as well as a fresh, well designed and put together window.

Then we delved deeper into ‘How to Improve Your Website so it Serves You in Your Business in 2020’
Today, we are talking about the hugely underutilised area of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
SEO is renowned for being complicated and confusing. I believe that’s the reason many entrepreneurs and small business owners shy away from it.
And I get it – it’s not my first love or forte either.
But, today, I’m hopefully going to demonstrate WHY it’s important.
And, why should it be part of your 2020 Business Growth Strategy…
Here’s how SEO can help you grow your business in 2020:
Search engine traffic can make a MONUMENTAL difference to the amount of eyeballs your website gets.
When was the last time you looked at page 2 of the search results?
Pfft me either!
But, even if you are on page 1 – moving up into the top 3 spots, or, even moving from 3rd to 1st can make a huge difference.
Let’s look at a case study:
For the purpose of this illustration, I’ve intentionally used a low-volume keyword, to demonstrate the difference that even a few extra hits could make to your website.
The keyword (search term) we will use today is: “Flowers New Zealand”
Using Neil Patel’s Uber Suggest Tool I can see that there are approximately 480 searches in New Zealand for this search term and the value of paid cost per click is $3.24.
(BTW if you’ve never played with Uber Suggest – I highly recommend giving it a go!)
You can see that the number 1 website gets 3x the traffic of the number 3 position.
So, if I was number 3, I would have 2 options to get more traffic than direct2florist (the number 1 spot)
I could pay for more traffic. If I wanted to pay to improve my traffic by 100 hits for this search term per month (giving me the most traffic), it would cost me 100 x $3.34 = $334 per month
I could review my SEO and improve my ranking and jump to the number 1 position. Over a year that could save me $4008
This is with a keyword without a high-volume of traffic picked at random. So, you can imagine how lucrative this could be with higher search volume terms!
What would that mean for your own business?
Imagine if you could optimise your website to appear in more searches and not only an extra 100 visitors for free a month, but what about an extra 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 or more?
What would it mean to your business to have 10,000 more visitors to your virtual shop front.
10,000 new people knowing about your business would be powerful right?
But what about conversions?
Now, let’s take that a step further and consider the impact if we fully optimised our website for conversions. We covered more about optimising your website for conversions in our last article: ‘How to improve your website so it serves you in your business in 2020′
I know for a fact, that by following the principles we outline in our course: ‘Pimp my Website’ and building a Lead Magnet using our methods in our course ‘Lead Magnets Made Easy’ it’s possible to convert 5-10% of all those visitors into email leads.
Imagine if your email list could grow by 500 – 1000 new people each month.
What difference would THAT make to your business?
That’s why SEO is so worth it!
That’s why even though search engine optimisation (SEO) or pimping your website can feel complicated or confusing, if you’re serious about growing your business in 2020, they are worth paying attention to!
